Writing Contests

Writing contests can further a career if you win in any category, Grand Prize, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place, or Honorary Mention. Competitions abound offering a variety of chances to win and attract attention to your name and your writing endeavors.

This site now offers contests, some relating to my novels. Sometimes you’ll find calls for your own short stories or poetry. Sometimes we will run only one contest; other times some will overlap.

For competitions relative to my novels, the questions you must answer can be found within the books themselves.

When the contests require answering questions, the first correct entry received wins, with others coming in second or third, if that’s what we offer for that competition.

Other competitions will require your own Flash stories or Poetry to be submitted.

Due to my present work load, writing contests sponsored by me will be sporadic till my time constraints ease.

In the meantime, I will be posting contests sponsored by people or organizations that I know and trust.

One such contest is the Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition. Lorian is the granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway and knows the business and how difficult it can be for a new writer to get a good start. Her contest is for emerging writers or writers who have not been published in a magazine with a circulation of 5,000 or more. If you're interested in entering exciting contests, give Lorian's competition a try.

Here is an excellent contest link that is professional and has trustworthy administration and judges. My thriller, River Bones, was a Finalist in their 2010-2011 competition. If you have a book published, consider entering in their 2011-2012 contest. A win or placement in these big contests will do wonders for your book and your reputation as a serious writer.

Also, you might watch this page for more referrals. I love contests and always search for the best ones. I'll be listing more soon.
