Personal Character Reference Writing

Personal character reference writing serves distinctive and valuable purposes:

Writing a recommendation for a friend

This type of letter allows for the writer telling about how he or she knows the subject person on a personal basis. This letter would have nothing to do with work experience, but only to the person’s character. This letter could be used for seeking employment or other positions as long as it applies to character only.

Using recommendation letters for joining groups and societies

You may be asked to write a recommendation for someone who wishes to join a private club or society. Maybe that person wishes to become an officer of a club or business you know nothing about.

In that case, you can’t say how much you know that person would fit the position. Learn what to say when you don’t know the business or practices of the intended recipient of such personal character reference writing.

Writing a job recommendation for someone you know seeking employment

If you are familiar with a person’s career experience and job performance, you may be asked to write about those aspects to help the person find a job or secure a new one.

Writing a recommendation for someone seeking future employment

Quite often, people need a blanket letter that they might submit to numerous companies while seeking employment. They may not know which companies till they find one or more where they might apply. This can be, either or both combined, strictly a personal reference or one that addresses job performance also. It all depends on your capacity and how you know that person.

Sample letter formats and explanations about how and when to write each of the types of recommendations are given on the Character Reference Letter Writing page in the Letters section of this site.

Recommendations also apply to what you say about yourself.

Writing your own biography

You write about your own merits when creating Biography.

For samples of writing about yourself, first see a little of my writing history, then see the pages pertaining to my personal Biography in the long version, and the medium, short and mini samples.

Writing a biography for someone else

You will work closely with the person about whom you write. A good Biography has certain rules, formats, and limitations to which you should adhere. Learn the prerequisites from samples of my Biographies and their explanations of how and why they are written in the forms given.

_______________

The purpose of recommendation letter writing for another person is to extol virtues of personality, work experience and job performance. You might be expected to comment on how you know them personally.

Personal character reference writing is not necessarily descriptive writing. It is narrow in its focus. The content is dependent upon how well you know the person about whom you write and the intended recipient.
